On 26 October 2011, KLM organised its Dialogue Event at the Passenger Terminal in Amsterdam. The theme for the day was, ‘Our Journey to Sustainable Aviation’. Some 150 stakeholders used the ‘Open Space’ concept to discuss topics including biofuels, CO2 reduction and fuel efficiency.
Each ‘Open Space’ discussion was captured in a mind map, summarising the ‘take-aways’.
The main questions (and the titles of the mind maps) from the different ‘Open Space’ discussions were classified into five themes: KLM, (Bio)Fuel, Sustainability, Government/Europe and Innovation. However, the ‘Open Space’ method made the discussions far broader in scope than the main questions alone.
Mind maps The Dialogue Event generated a total of 34 mind maps, which were evaluated in cooperation with our partners, including the World Wide Fund for Nature in the Netherlands (WWF Netherlands) SkyNRG, and our colleagues in various KLM departments.
It is our pleasure to share further details about the various ‘take-aways’ and discussions with you below. From the discussions, it emerged that large numbers of participants were unaware of many of KLM’s programmes and projects in the field of sustainability. Because of this, we have chosen to present further details in the format below.
The NOW: the ‘proof points’ already utilised in achieving greater aviation sustainability. The FUTURE : the ‘take-aways’ for possible utilisation in the future.
